The Future Is Here
For the past several months, I have been on a whirlwind journey.
In many ways, I have been returning from the depths of the abyss, personally and professionally, to share what I have learned.
What continues to surprise and delight me is how the conversation around holistic security has evolved over the nearly fifteen years I have carried this vision. What began as conversations rooted in possibility has matured into conversations grounded in impact, structure, and practice.
Across countries, cultures, industries, disciplines, genders, and lived experiences, people are asking thoughtful questions, not because they are skeptical, but because they genuinely want to understand. What I know now, more than ever, is that we need people who can see this practice for all that it is, not simply what they assume it to be. We need allies. We need collaborators. And yes, I would even say we need revolutionaries.
People willing to carry this mantle with wisdom, humility, and courage. This work was created to raise consciousness and create greater balance in our world. It exists to honor and protect the feminine, and to strengthen the security of those who are most vulnerable.
As I have traveled, one truth has become increasingly clear: Holistic security does not look the same in Mexico or Colombia as it does in Egypt, Oman, or Indonesia. It does not look the same across the diverse communities of the United States, France, England, Brazil, or South Africa.
Just as every organization builds its cybersecurity program differently while following common principles, every community will practice holistic security in ways that reflect its own history, culture, relationships, and needs.
That realization doesn’t weaken this work; it strengthens and expands what is possible. It honors both the whole and every piece within the whole. It honors individuals & communities. Local realities & global responsibility. Holistic security practitioners and those who have never considered themselves part of this work. Nonprofits, businesses, governments, communities, and individuals whose resources, when invested wisely, have the power to create trust, resilience, and lasting change.
One of my greatest lessons over the past fifteen years: There are no silos. We are part of an interconnected web, and as leaders, practitioners, educators, and community builders, we are either weaving that web together, or it is not being woven at all.
My second greatest lesson is that while ConsciouslySecure offers a clear vision, philosophy, and framework for holistic security, it is not the only expression of holistic security. There are multiple framings. That diversity is evidence that this field is growing.
In 2014, in the anthology Amazon #1 Bestselling book Mission Unstoppable, I defined a vision for this work.
Today, I am helping to define an emerging field. Welcome to the future of Holistic Security. It’s here.
